Texas Hot Hummus 2

Texas Hot Hummus

Smoky, spicy, and totally healthy! We took a favorite hot dog topping and added a VegInspired spin.  An oil-free, whole food plant-based Texas Hot Hummus just in time to take to your summer picnic or BBQ and top your favorite Vegan Hotdog (we like FieldRoast Frankfurters and Light Life Smart Dogs) or even a CARROT DOG.

Texas Hot Sauce is traditionally made with meat and spices and simmered much like chili (in fact, many use chili in its place).  We spiced up the tradition and mixed it with chickpeas for a delicious alternative.  You could even serve it with crackers, chips, and/or veggies.

Texas Hot Hummus

  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 T chili powder
  • 1/2 t brown sugar
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 t onion flakes
  • 1/2 t allspice
  • 1/8 t cloves
  • 1/4 c tahini
  • 1 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 T ketchup
  • 1 T yellow mustard
  • d2 t apple cider vinegar
  • 2 T red hot
  • water
  1. Add all ingredients except water into a food processor (grab our favorite here!), and process until combined.
  2. With the processor running, slowly drizzle in water to desired consistency.
  3. Mix in salt and pepper to taste

We served this Texas Hot Hummus, piled high on our favorite vegan hot dog with a simple shredded carrot slaw – carrots tossed with a splash of seasoned rice vinegar and Vegenaise (or Cashew Garlic Aioli).  Other toppings can include diced onion, mustard, and hot sauce.  So healthy and incredibly delicious!
